Have you ever heard the expression "God does infinitely more"? It's a powerful reminder that when we surrender our lives to God, he doesn't just meet our needs, he does more than we can imagine or ask for. This verse is found in Ephesians 3:20It's a verse that brings a lot of hope and confidence in God's power.
The Verse from Ephesians 3:20
The verse that talks about God doing infinitely more is in Ephesians 3:20, and it says the following:
"Now to him who is able to do infinitely more than all we ask or think, according to his power that works in us..." (Ephesians 3:20, NIV).
This verse is one of the best known when talking about God's greatness and power. It reminds us that God is not limited by what we can ask or even imagine. His ability to act is far greater than our comprehension. But what exactly does it mean that God does "infinitely more"? Let's understand better.
1# God does infinitely more than we ask
We often pray and ask God for something that we feel is necessary for our lives. It can be something small or even big requests. But God is not limited by our vision or understanding of our needs. When he decides to act in our lives, he goes beyond our expectations.
Imagine you're asking God for something, something you think would be great for your life, but God has an even better plan. He does infinitely more than we ask because his vision goes beyond ours. He not only satisfies our needs, but also surprises us with blessings we never imagined.
Example in the Bible:
Think of the story of Solomon. When God appeared to him in a dream and asked him what he wanted, Solomon asked for wisdom to govern the people of Israel. God was so pleased with Solomon's sincere request that he not only gave him wisdom, but also riches and honor (1 Kings 3:11-13). Solomon asked for something specific, but God went beyond what he imagined, blessing him with more than he asked for.
2# God does infinitely more than we think
As well as doing more than we ask, God also does more than we think. Our human mind has limitations, and often we don't even know what to ask for. However, God knows what we really need, and He has a broader vision for our lives. This means that, many times, He brings something that hasn't even crossed our minds, but which is exactly what we need.
God knows our hearts and knows how to surprise us with his blessings. Sometimes our faith is small or our expectations are limited, but God can do so much more. He invites us to trust in His power and wisdom, knowing that He knows what is best for us.
Example in the Bible:
We also see this in the story of Abraham. He and his wife, Sarah, had no children and, in their old age, probably couldn't even imagine the possibility of becoming parents. But God, in His wisdom, did something infinitely more than Abraham could have thought or asked for: He promised Abraham that he would be the father of a great nation (Genesis 17:4-5). Abraham thought he was just asking for a son, but God had a much bigger plan.
3# God's power at work in us
The verse in Ephesians 3:20 also points out that God does all this "according to his power that works in us". This means that when we surrender our lives to God, He not only acts on His own, but allows us to participate in His plans. God's power is not distant from us, but works in our hearts and lives, transforming us and enabling us to live according to his will.
God calls us to actively participate in his plan, and this involves faith and trust. When we pray and ask God, we are not just passively waiting for Him to make things happen. He strengthens and empowers us, and often He uses us as instruments to accomplish His will. This reminds us that God's power is not only great, but also personal and transformative.
Example in the Bible:
In Philippians 4:13Paul says: "I can do all things through him who strengthens me." God's power works in Paul, enabling him to face any challenge. That same power is at work in our lives, enabling us to overcome obstacles and live according to God's plans. When we trust in Him, He acts powerfully and gives us the strength we need to move forward.
4# What does this verse mean for us today?
Now that we understand the meaning of Ephesians 3:20, we can apply this verse to our lives in a practical way. This verse teaches us to trust in God's power, knowing that He always has a greater plan than ours. Even if we don't fully understand what is happening or when things don't turn out the way we expect, we can rest in the certainty that God is working on our behalf and will do infinitely more than we can imagine.
How can we live this on a daily basis?
1# Trust in God's promisesWhen you pray and ask God for something, trust that He will act according to His power and wisdom.
2# Be open to the unexpectedGod often surprises us with answers we didn't expect. Be ready to receive what he has for you, even if it's something different from what you imagined.
3# Believe in God's power in your life: God's power is not far away. He works in you, transforming your life and accomplishing great things through His grace and power.
God's power is unlimited
Ephesians 3:20 teaches us that God is able to do infinitely more than we ask or think. This verse reminds us that God's power is unlimited and that He always has something better in store for us, even when our expectations are limited. When we trust in God and surrender to His plan, He surprises us and enables us to experience something much greater than we imagined. May we live with this trust, knowing that the God who does infinitely more is always by our side.
